Your Bedrooms: Hardwood Floors or Wall-to-Wall Carpets?
Posted on November 20th, 2011
Another which do you prefer question – which I just love. They’re a great way to get your opinion and therefore get a sense of today’s trends as well….
So which is your preference? A bedroom with clean, crisp hardwood floors or a bedroom with plush, warm wall-to-wall carpeting. As I see it, the pros to hardwood floors are that they are easier to clean – it’s hard to get the dust under beds when the floor is carpeted not to mention yucky carpet stains that won’t come out. Hardwood floors also don’t hold smells, bacteria, etc., so they are preferable to those with allergies. And I hear this time and time again when buyers whose children have allergies are looking for a home.
With regard to wall-to-wall carpets, they are warm and pleasing to your foot’s touch when you get out of bed in the middle of the night or in the early morning. They can also give a feeling of warmth, texture and color, which in turn gives an “interior design” element to the room, and this can be fun, creative and interesting all at the same time.
And then there’s the issue of cost…. Where we live, many of the newly-constructed, spec homes use carpeting in the bedrooms. (As an aside, sometimes in the spec homes, you see
hardwood floors in the master bedroom and wall-to-wall carpeting in the other bedrooms, which may give a clue about the preference toward hardwood floors.) Carpeting is theoretically less expensive than hardwood floors, and so the spec homes are often built this way. But now given the very high-end, plush wall-to-wall carpeting, hardwood floors are not always more expensive than wall-to-wall carpeting – it really depends on which kind of carpeting you prefer and the expense therein.
What are your thoughts? Hardwood floors or wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms? Or maybe you like hardwood floors in some bedrooms and wall-to-wall carpeting in others? I can’t wait to hear….
