A Q&A on The Home Cleansing and Clearing Process

Posted on May 13th, 2011

I am so excited to be featuring a Q&A session on the subject of home cleansing and clearing with my great friend and colleague, Laura Urell.  Laura is a Psychic Healer and Scientist researching in her Watertown, MA practice.  She is also a Certified Energy Medicine Practitioner and has a Masters of Science in Bioethics, a Certificate of Reiki Master, a year-long training in The Diamond Heart Approach and extensive experience in the Esoteric Sciences as well as Psychology.  In other words, she is an educated, knowledgeable, insightful, talented and extraordinary person and professional….

So without further ado, here is some vital information from renowned Laura Urell, who is responsible for the “A” of the Q&A, on the home cleansing and clearing process:

Why would a house need to be cleansed and cleared?

Energetically everything that happens in a home – thoughts, actions and emotions – is held there like microscopic dust imprinted on the walls, floor and furniture.   Arguments, upsets, illness, traumas and other unsettling energies (or unwanted entities) can linger and disturb the balance of any home.

When do you recommend cleansing and clearing your home?

There two different terms: House Cleansing and House Clearing.

A House Cleansing is something anyone can do to their home.  Purchase a small dried sage bush (Whole Foods carries these), and burn it while walking through your home.  Or you can buy Sacred Sage Spray (see photo below) and spray it throughout your home.  Sage absorbs negative energy and leaves additional healing vibrations in the home.  I cleanse my home once a month and would suggest that everyone else do so as well.  Be prepared though – sage also clears negative energy on or in a person, so you may feel a tantrum come on right after you have cleansed the house.

A House Clearing is a more complex process done by a professional, and it would be done when you are buying or selling a new home or when you feel the energy of a negative entity or a ghost.  This process clears every room, identifies any negative energy drafts, reroutes energy flow, rids the house of negative energy spots, removes negative entities and ghosts (yes, ghosts exist, especially here in New England, but they are not all bad) and places energetic boundaries along the outside of the home in case negative energy is coming from the street or the neighboring houses.

What are your thoughts about clearing your home if you are planning to sell it?  Should you cleanse your home prior to listing it or while it is on the market?  And what about when you are buying a house?

I think every home should be cleared before it goes on the market.  And if you are buying a house, I absolutely recommend a full house clearing/cleansing.  Of course, we see thousands of homes sold without a cleansing, but honestly, moving into a house without doing a clearing is energetically like going to the bathroom in a toilet filled with someone else’s waste (ick).  Just imagine what hotel room walls look like energetically.

What does the home cleansing and clearing process entail?

The process takes about 45-60 minutes depending on how much energetic dirt is in the home.  I usually map out the house either before I enter it or at the beginning of the process.  On the map, I mark areas which have negative energy or where the house may sit on an Energy Vortex.  Energy Vortices are part of the Earth’s natural energy grid and flow positive or negative. After mapping, I start in the room to which I am called, and I begin clearing the energy with sage, crystal clear, golden light (this is a liquid concentrate of crushed crystals with very high vibrations) and Orange Chalice, which works specifically on grounding emotions.

How long does it last? In other words, how often do you suggest cleansing your home?

Once a home is cleared and cleansed professionally, you can clear it on your own once a month, and it will be fine.  Doing this right before the new moon is especially beneficial, and it is a very similar energetic process to a woman’s menstrual cycle, which is also on a 28-day moon cycle.

What are some of the greatest benefits of the home cleansing and clearing process?  And what are some of the best results you’ve seen?

The benefits are incredible.  The house feels lighter, more free, not bogged down with old negative emotions and energy.  The best results I have ever felt was when I cleansed a salon.  The negative energy floating around from all the hair that was cut and fell to the floor was incredible.  To cleanse the place and feel the lightness was truly astonishing.

Have you ever experienced a time in which the home cleansing and clearing process didn’t work?

I have done a number of cleansings where there were ghosts and negative entities and these are much more difficult.  Some ghosts will allow themselves to be crossed-over, others will want to stay but will offer a “negotiation,” something along the lines of, “Okay, I’ll move out of the house, but I want to stay on the lot.”  I would say 90% of the time I am able to clear any type of ghost or negative entity.

What is the approximate cost of the home clearing process?

Home clearings are usually somewhere around $150.

What are your thoughts? I can’t wait to hear….
